About the BNR Project
Future-proofing the City's infrastructure and water quality
The City’s second largest infrastructure improvement program is underway to provide residents access to a safe, reliable water supply for current and future generations. The City of Wichita’s Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) Program is a forward-thinking commitment to residents to improve Arkansas River water quality, increase treatment capacity for future growth, reduce odor impacts, and rehabilitate critical infrastructure. The regional economy will benefit from the $357 million dollar project that is also leveraging low-interest financing options and prioritizes the use of Kansas-based businesses.

The Wichita BNR Program supports Kansas-based businesses.
"The Biological Nutrient Removal Program is the second-largest infrastructure investment in our City’s history, second only to the under-construction Northwest Water Treatment Plant. The project is crucial to ensuring that our city’s infrastructure can accommodate our growing population."
Vice Mayor Mike Hoheisel, City of Wichita, City Councilman

“The CDM Smith team is honored to be part of Wichita’s investment in the City of Wichita’s water infrastructure. The BNR program and resulting projects will positively affect the lives of all Wichitans with respect to improving water quality and odor control, and will address the infrastructure challenges of growth, aging infrastructure and new regulatory requirements.”
